Kirkness Edmonton Real Estate
The neighbourhood of Kirkness is found in north east Edmonton. Kirkness is named after James Kirkness, an employee of the Hudson’s Bay Company who came to the Edmonton area in 1866. The first homes in Kirkness were built during the 1970s, according to the 2001 federal census. The majority of Kirkness homes were built during the 1970s, when 70.3% of homes were built. Another 15.8% was constructed during the 1990s. The single-family dwelling is the most common Kirkness residence, making up 55% of homes in the neighbourhood, according to the 2005 census. Another 28% are low-rise apartments, 9% are duplexes, and 8% are row houses. A total of 63% of Kirkness homes are owner-occupied.
